About the circuit
The Losail International Circuit is located 22 miles north of Qatar’s capital city Doha and has an interesting layout. It features 16 turns and is nearly 5.4 km in length. Ever since the build in 2004 the track has seen lots of racing action in multiple racing classes. It’s a permanent circuit for the MotoGP, has hosted two rounds of the GP2 Asia series and hosted touring car, speedcars, motocross and superbike races.
The track has plenty of challenges for the drivers during the Formula 1 Grand Prix, with the biggest challenge being the tyre strategy. The sheer number of corners in quick succession will take a lot out of the tyres. Besides that the track has not been resurfaced since the build in 2004, which leads to both levels of abrasiveness and a lot of grip. Tyremanagement and great strategy are required to make it to the finish line.
Drivers will not only face tyre challenges as there are plenty of racing challenges too, like the high-speed corner sequence from turn 12 to 14 and only one DRS zone on the main straight. This makes this Grand Prix an eventful race to watch and drive!
